Sustainability. Quality. Craft.
Values that are unfortunately getting shorter and shorter in the current time - cheaper, faster and simply throw away when "the paint has flaked off" - unfortunately this happens more and more often. At Spessartbrett the story begins in nature, in the forest, quite simply. The wood is felled by forest workers, then the saw gate comes before the boards are carefully dried. In the carpenter's workshop the boards are sawn, planed, sanded and the appropriate final sanding is given in the classical craft. Then each Spessart board gets an individual number, beaten by hand with numbers. And we're planting a tree. Right, for each board we plant an oak, and this oak gets the same number as a board. And then the Spessart boards go on the journey to the customers, a good cycle.
Spessart board "Knuck."
Just beautiful. Simply robust.
The hammer.
"He who wants to create properly needs proper tools."
(Quote, my master carpenter, late eighties)
And he wasn't wrong about that.
How often do you use a chopping board? Right, so many times that it's best not to put it away, you always need it anyway.
It not only protects the worktop from damage and mess, but also looks good.
Material oak crosscut. The growth direction of the wood is "standing". This makes the "Knuck" extremely firm and easy on the knife.
A really good tool, the beautiful robust cutting block "Knuck".
Heavy. Big. Good. 6.7 kg.
With recessed grips milled into the sides, for turning, carrying, washing up and turning.
Since we put functionality and quality in the foreground with our products, we think long and hard about it, and test the boards in our own use. We had to decide if we wanted to use beautiful stainless steel feet (and thus take the opportunity to simply turn the board around), or find another way. We found these: Four stable rubber rings with a thickness of 5 mm now allow the use on both sides, offer very good ventilation and have the positive side effect that they compensate for unevenness on the worktop.
We deliberately decided not to use the juice rim on this board. Our experience has shown that it is not so easy to hold the large heavy cutting boards over the sink. Different from the "Diana" board, e.g. to drain or clean fruit and vegetable juices.
And every once in a while the cut material (onions, tomatoes, peppers) gets stuck in the gutter.
- Model Knuck ca: 450 x 500 x 40mm
- Type of wood: oak end-grain wood
- Each Spessart board is given an individual number, manually struck with numbers.
- With recessed grips milled into the sides, for turning, carrying, washing up and turning. Material oak end-grain wood. The growth direction of the wood is "standing". This makes the "Knuck" extremely cut-resistant and gentle to the knife
- Finely ground and pre-treated 2 times with linseed oil
- For each board we plant an oak, and this oak gets the same number as a board.
Each board is unique.
With us you buy unique pieces. Uniques.
What's the matter with you?
Each Spessart board receives a number. This is hammered in by hand with blow numbers. Doesn't have to be, but it gives us pleasure, and you certainly do, too... But the thing with the number has another reason. We plant an oak for every board sold.
We take from nature, we give to nature. This opens and closes the cycle.
And every tree gets the number of the board.
The thing about the trees. How we take from nature, and how we give again.
We are grateful to get from nature. And that we can turn our backs on plastics, cheap products, low-wage production and rainforest clearing. Since we make everything as natural as possible, the cycle begins in an oak forest. There we leave the little trees time to germinate, to develop. And that's where they get "their number". In order to prevent wild browsing and other influences, we give the trees about a year to bring them to their final place. This is either in the great outdoors, during reforestation, or on one of our woods.
Each board comes with care instructions. But so that you can find out what real wood boards like or don't like before you buy, here are our care tips to download, or take a look at the YouTube video. Very easy to find here on the tab "YouTube Video".
