Baby skin is much thinner than adult skin and at the same time the horny layer has a looser structure and is less resistant. The barrier effect of the horny layer against harmful substances is therefore less well developed, and the skin reacts more sensitively to environmental influences.
The natural protective acid mantle of the skin does not form in newborns until after a few weeks and regenerates much more slowly than in adults, even in older children. It has an important task in keeping bacteria and pathogens at bay.

The horny layer of children's skin has a higher moisture content than that of adults. At the same time, however, sebum production in children is still greatly reduced. As a result, baby and children's skin is only covered with a very thin film of water and grease and can dry out easily. In addition, there is less protection against cold and injuries.
Why use baby care products at all?
After birth, the baby's skin must quickly adapt to a new environment. After many months in the amniotic fluid, it must now adapt to the air and external environmental influences.
For a while, it was said that you could do without skin care and washing products when caring for your baby. In the meantime, however, it is known that washing with water alone dries out the baby's skin. However, since baby skin is very sensitive, it does not tolerate the same care products as adult skin.
Creams
A gentle dab to balance the skin.
From day one, babies need all our love. Pass on that love in baby care, too. By providing gentle care with care products , you protect your baby's skin against external influences and help it to develop its own healthy protection.
When and how often should my baby be creamed?
You should apply a light cream to your face and hands several times a day. Apply the cream thoroughly to your child's entire body, especially after bathing. A milk lotion spreads gently, is quickly absorbed and restores moisture to the baby's delicate skin.
For more intensive care and for areas of the skin that are exposed to the air more often, such as the face and hands, a corresponding care cream is just right. It is quickly absorbed and supports the stable balance of the skin.
When does my baby need special care?
Baby's skin needs special care in winter when the air is colder, when the heating air is dry and, of course, after bathing. A Wind & Weather Balm is particularly rich and protects dry skin from drying out. In the cooler season, it also reliably protects normal skin from weather-related skin irritations. It is quickly absorbed and protects the skin naturally.
What is neurodermatitis?

Neurodermatitis is a chronic or chronically recurring skin disease that is not contagious. Characteristic for neurodermatitis is very dry skin up to reddened and scaly eczema and usually strong itching.
What can be done?
The good news is that many children only suffer from a mild form of the disease. For this moderate form, which is often just called "sensitive, dry skin", the so-called "basic therapy" is mainly applied: Regular skin care with suitable products that supply the skin with valuable ingredients and, above all, moisture.
For many patients with mild atopic dermatitis and skin prone to atopic dermatitis, care products (pharmacy products) specially developed for atopic dermatitis patients are not necessarily required. As a rule, commercially available products are also suitable. Their compatibility should be dermatologically confirmed and ideally these care products should not contain any ingredients that frequently trigger allergies. It is best to seek advice on this from your dermatologist.
